Disney on Ice
Yet again, we ventured out to the commercialized dreamworld of Disney on Ice.  It was a lot of fun - the girls were very excited to see Mickey and Minnie (Carys is still applauding and screaming, "Yeah, Mickey" at random times throughout the day).  Aislin is still wearing her gold Mickey ears around the house. I guess that is what makes it worthwhile.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CARYS!!!!

We can hardly believe our little cutie-pie is two!  We had a wonderful party with all of her (and our) friends and family.  Oma decorated the beautiful cake, we played pin the tail on the donkey, fishing for prizes and, of course, smacked around a pinata.  I think a great time was had by all, especially Carys.  Thank you to everyone who made her and our day special!

Halloween!
We had a very fun, if not highly sugar over-dosed Halloween.   We took Batgirl and Elmo to a huge festival with our friends Batman and Fancy Nancy and then hit a couple neighbors up for some candy.   Aislin had the "Trick or Treat" and "Thank Yous" down.  Carys, on the other hand, held her basket out and would scream, "ELMO!" - and then say "Thank you" (at least she got that part).  Too cute.

Little Athletes
Grandma came for a visit and brought along her new fancy camera.  We are envious (of her and my brother and wife, who also have this marvelous camera).  Anyway, she got a couple of nice shots of the girls in their activities - Aislin tap dancing and Carys at gymnastics (with her favorite coach, Mike.

We Saw the "Real" Thomas!
We drove up this weekend to meet Aunt Jamie, Uncle Silly Billy and William, go camping and to see the real Thomas the Tank Engine.   We all had such a good time, that we really didn't want to go home!  The highlights were the adventure walks Ken would take the kids on, the giant green grasshopper, the roasting marshmallows for s'mores,  the porch swings, and of course riding Thomas!

Carys Gets Baptised....FINALLY!
It has been a long time coming, but Carys has been baptised.  She and her cousin William had a "double ceremony" held with Deacon Ken.  It was a very nice baptism with a great after party held by Aunt JJ and Matt.

Lubbock
The second half of our exodus from home was spent with Gma and Paddy.    We decided to drive up, which wasn't so bad.   We stopped in Junction, Texas and visited South Llano State Park, where the girls frolicked in the river and enjoyed stretching their legs.  After that, we at e at this quaint little diner - shockingly, amongst the mostly fried fare, they had some of the most delicious steamed broccoli...who knew?

In short, we had a great time...we went apple picking, did some bird watching (and lots of fish feeding), made ice cream, and even had a birthday party for yours truly.

It Has Been Over a Month!!
I have no real excuse for the lack of posts - Ike has come and gone, and we have had many exciting occurrances with the family...I supposed it can only be chalked-up to pure laziness!  So, here is our month in very few words and probably too many pictures!  In these, we visited Corpus for a cousin's wedding...Aislin fished in her first tournament (not one to be caught!), and Carys enjoyed the beach.  It was a wonderful visit with Ken's family.

As most of you may have heard, we stuck our tails between our legs and RAN from Ike to San Antonio to stay with family/friends.  It ended up being a short, yet super, mini-vacation.  The first day there, we went to the zoo.  The girls LOVED the butterfly garden and feeding the lory birds.

The next day, we went to Guadalupe State Park, where the kids played in the river for hours.

On Sunday, we all went to Sea World.  This was the girls' first time, and they lasted ALL DAY - forget about naptime, we have some whales to watch!  Aislin went on her first roller coaster ride, as well...we have an addict!  They did not, however, enjoy being splashed by the whales!

We did other random things during the week, including meeting friends in New Braunfels, just no pictures!

I am now exhausted and will head to bed.  Next up, our trip to Lubbock and more!   Good night!

Week of Firsts
This was our week of a couple firsts.   Aislin and Carys had their first day of school.   Aislin is in the Preschool 3's class, and Carys is in the 1's class.  They had great first days, with Carys not crying at all, and Aislin knowing her letter, color, and sign for the day.

Aislin also had her first "real" ballet class.  Carys gave her a good luck hug before she started.  And, she loved it - although, I think she enjoyed watching herself in the mirror most of all!

Life's a Beach

We had a great trip to the beach with our friends last weekend.  The girls didn't particularly care for the beach this time around, so we spent a bulk of our time in the massive pool area at the condo.  At least I got a few of the obligatory fun-in-the-sun-and-sand photos!

Beeeautiful Colorado
Our family trip to Colorado was awesome!  First stop:  Uncle Mike and Aunt Laura's house.  I think there were two definite hits with the kids at their house - Rock Band and their downstairs arcade.  And when I say arcade, I mean it - about 15 games plus a Dance Dance Revolution machine.  Very cool.

We drove up to Estes Park for the weekend where we stayed at a very neat house quite high up in a mountain.  We were greeted with a beautiful rainbow and incredible view.

The first day, we went hiking with Paddy to Alberta Falls at Rocky Mountain National Park.   On the way, we saw a beautiful opening with a stream running through it.  What a great stop - beautiful views, and girls loved playing in the icy cold mountain stream.
We were lulled into thinking it would be an easy hike, since it was relatively short; however, with two kids, a picnic in tow and a path going straight up, this was not the case.   It was absolutely gorgeous, and well worth the trek.  Not only were the falls beautiful, but the girls enjoyed exploring the rocks and plants around them (Aislin's favorite was the "Microphone Flower" that she would sing into).

The next day was our jaunt to Bear Lake with Grandma.  This was a much easier walk with barely any elevation change and amazing scenery.  Aislin had fun taking pictures with Grandma's camera and noting the landmarks, while Carys really enjoyed chasing the wildlife.

On the way home, we saw a big herd of elk - beautiful creatures.

On our way to the airport, we made one last stop to our mountain stream - icy cold water, but all the kids still had a blast.  We then had a lovely lunch and playtime in Boulder before heading home.  It was a great trip - the girls all loved each other (I think!) - we will definitely do it again soon.

Oil Well Education!
We met Max and his mom at the museum on Friday.  Instead of doing our usual jaunt to the butterfly gardens, we headed through the dinosaurs into the energy displays.
On the way, there was a hands-on demonstration of some fossils - what you see next to Aislin's face is a T-Rex tooth!    Carys was walking around the area roaring - very cute coming from a little sprite.  Then we got to the energy section - what a cool wing!   First they got to watch themselves dance on TV, then watched a hologram explaining how you search for oil; then they played the oilman slot machine (Carys won $900K - we wish!), and then the coolest part of all - the "Elevator" to the bottom of an oil well!   Now Aislin goes around talking about "frac jobs" and "perfs".  When we got out of the well, the kids played around with the "Christmas Tree", a series of valves placed on a site.

Friday night, Marin and Maecve stopped by on their way to Florida.  It was a fun, but far too short of a visit.  Pretty soon after they drove into the driveway, all of the girls started playing together as if they saw each other everyday.  It was great.

Today was a very fun day.  We met Vivien and her family at the mall where we built bears.  I wasn't sure what to expect, but the girls had a wonderful time selecting their pets.   Aislin and Vivien picked the same cat, and Aislin named hers Josela (what?).   Carys had a hard time deciding between a husky and her floppy-eared choice, that she named 'Abeda'  (I wasn't sure how to spell it, but here it is phonetically "Ahbehdah").   Thank you Marin and Maeve for the gift cards!   The only sad part of the new pets is that Choppers has suddenly become outcast - Aislin actually threw her out of her bed!   We'll see if that changes...if it doesn't it will be a sad end to a very cute era.

Oh Lordy!
Where to begin? It has been a very busy couple of weeks, so I will definitely keep it brief.  Vivien's stay with us was great...Aislin loved having the built-in playmate (Carys just isn't into dressing-up yet!), and Vivien was a champion away from her parents for the first time.  She stayed with us so her parents could be at the hospital welcoming our newest little friend, Jonathan Maverick Henry.  The girls already ADORE him, pinching his knees and ears and calling him "cute"!

On another note, in the past week or so, Carys has suddenly taken to sitting on the toilet.  Now, nothing actually happens, except for her odd habit of making the "psssss" sound with her mouth (where did she get that?).  Not sure if she will actually try to train anytime soon, but it's a nice thought.

Last weekend, we went to Ken's cousin's ranch to celebrate another cousin's 40th birthday.  The kids had a ball being doted on by their relatives; and especially being fed ridiculous amounts of icing-covered cookies and riding on the Polaris ATV.

Tuesday, Aislin had her first dance class.  Since last week, when we went to register her for the fall semester, she has woken up saying, "Do I go to ballet today?!?!?!?" - classes don't start until September, but I was able to get her into the last two summer classes this week.  Thank goodness!   She was GREAT!  I was worried about her coordination, but comparing her to the other girls who have been to at least 20+ classes, she was right there with them (and she loved, loved, loved it).  It helped that the teacher looked like their aunt - Carys kept screaming, "JJ!  JJ!" throughout the lesson.

And, in the pool, Carys is having a ball - she is now swimming quite a few feet underwater and picks things up from 4 feet under and pushes off the ground and swims up.   Pretty cool!  (Video)

Firestation Visit
We have our friend, Vivien, staying with us for a while, so today I took them to a tour of the local firestation.  They all had a blast pretending to drive the truck, watching a fireman suit-up, playing in the back of the truck, learning about the ambulance, and of course ringing the bell.  I even got to try on the coat - it was heavy, and the girls really didn't know what to think of that!

I also learned something new today - teach your children that, in case of a fire, throw your toys out the window.   This will give the firemen an indication of where children are in the house!

Addressing a Situation

Dear Heloise:

We had found that we were receiving more free return labels than our family knew what to do with. Our oldest daughter found the perfect use for the adhesives:  Toddler Battle Armor!  It's lightweight AND disposable!

Parties and Beaches
We had a fun weekend including a great birthday party and a trip to see Mimi and Papa with a visit to the beach.  Friday was Quinn's birthday party - with a science experiment theme.  Right up my alley, so I was happy to help!  We made a really cool volcano cake and her parents came up with some very fun activities, including balloon races, making slime, and of course a pinata!

Then we headed down south for one of Ken's cousin's weddings.   We went to the beach on Saturday to celebrate Miranda, Jessica and Landon's birthday.   Aislin went boogie-boarding for the first time.

Our usual waterbaby Carys decided to stay away from the waves for the most part and spent her time playing peekaboo under my dress or redecorating the tent.

Now I must get back to playing with my iPhone.  Hee hee!

Carys Reads!

Okay, not really - but this sure is cute:  Video

On a separate note, Aislin really did read.  She phonetically sounded out a sentence in a book she hadn't read before.  Cool, huh?
